December 11 has no owner yet

On December 11, 1997, 37 countries signed the Kyoto Protocol, the first binding international agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions causing climate change. The protocol set emission reduction targets for industrialised countries for the period 2008-2012. The United States signed but never ratified it; Australia took ten years to do so.

On December 11, 1946, the Indian Constituent Assembly elected Rajendra Prasad as its president, formally beginning the process of drafting the Constitution of India, which would be adopted in 1949. India, about to gain independence from the British Empire, was building its democratic foundations while still under colonial rule. Jawaharlal Nehru would become Prime Minister.

On December 11, 1936, King Edward VIII abdicated from the British Crown, becoming the only British monarch to voluntarily renounce the throne. He did so to marry American divorcée Wallis Simpson, a union the government and the Anglican Church rejected. He passed the throne to his brother, the stuttering George VI, father of the future Queen Elizabeth II.
