October 11 has no owner yet

On October 11, 1968, NASA launched Apollo 7, the first crewed mission of the Apollo programme, eleven months after the tragic Apollo 1 fire that killed three astronauts. The mission, with Wally Schirra, Donn Eisele and Walter Cunningham aboard, proved the spacecraft was flight-worthy and cleared the path toward the July 1969 Moon landing.

October 11 was declared by the UN as the International Day of the Girl Child in 2012, to highlight the specific challenges faced by girls worldwide: forced marriages, lack of access to education and gender-based violence. The date aims to promote the empowerment of girls and their access to rights on equal terms.

On October 11, 1899, the Second Boer War broke out in South Africa, when the Boer republics of Transvaal and the Orange Free State declared war on the British Empire. The conflict lasted nearly three years and was notorious for the British use of concentration camps, which caused tens of thousands of deaths among Boer civilians.
