August 14 has no owner yet

On August 14, 1947, Pakistan gained independence from the British Empire, becoming the first state in the world created on the principle of Islamic religious identity. The partition of the Indian subcontinent between India and Pakistan triggered one of the largest mass migrations in history: more than ten million people crossed the new border in both directions.

On August 14, 1945, Emperor Hirohito announced on the radio Japan's unconditional surrender, ending World War II in the Pacific. It was the first time most Japanese people had heard their emperor's voice. His speech, secretly recorded and broadcast the following day, became known as the Gyokuon-hōsō, the "jewel voice broadcast".

On August 14, 1900, a multinational force of 20,000 soldiers from eight nations — including Britain, France, Germany, Japan and the United States — captured Beijing and ended the siege of the foreign legations during the Boxer Rebellion. The intervention humiliated the Qing dynasty and accelerated the collapse of the Chinese Empire.
