February 14 has no owner yet

On February 14, 1929, gunmen from Al Capone's gang machine-gunned seven members of the rival Bugs Moran gang in a Chicago garage, in what became known as the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. The episode exemplified the violence unleashed by Prohibition and made Capone the most wanted gangster in America, though he was finally convicted of tax evasion in 1931.

On February 14, 1946, the ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer) was publicly presented at the University of Pennsylvania — the world's first general-purpose electronic computer. The ENIAC weighed 27 tonnes, occupied 167 square metres and contained 18,000 vacuum tubes. It could perform 5,000 additions per second — an unimaginable speed at the time.

On February 14, 1989, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa calling for the killing of British-Indian writer Salman Rushdie for his novel "The Satanic Verses", considered blasphemous by many Muslims. Rushdie lived for years under police protection. The fatwa strained relations between Iran and the Western world and opened a global debate on freedom of expression.
