October 20 has no owner yet

On October 20, 2011, Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi was captured and killed by rebel forces in Sirte, his hometown, ending forty-two years of authoritarian rule. His death came during the Libyan Civil War, backed by a NATO intervention, and marked the end of the conflict, though not of instability in the country.

On October 20, 1944, a civic-military insurrection in Guatemala overthrew dictator Jorge Ubico, beginning the October Revolution, a ten-year period of democracy and social reform known as the "springtime decade". The process was cut short in 1954 by a CIA-organised coup at the behest of the United Fruit Company.

On October 20, 1944, American General Douglas MacArthur waded ashore on the Philippine island of Leyte, fulfilling his promise "I shall return", made when he left the Philippines in 1942. The Battle of Leyte Gulf, which lasted several days, was the largest naval battle in history and marked the beginning of the liberation of the Philippines from Japanese rule.
