🇪🇬2011

On January 25, 2011, millions of Egyptians took to squares across the country demanding the end of the regime of President Hosni Mubarak, who had been in power for thirty years. The protests, centred on Tahrir Square in Cairo, became the focal point of the Arab Spring. Eighteen days later, Mubarak resigned. The democratic hopes were dashed by the military coup of 2013.

On January 25, 1924, the first Winter Olympic Games in history were inaugurated in Chamonix, France, with 16 countries and 258 athletes. The games, which included skiing, skating, ice hockey and bobsled, laid the foundations of modern Olympic winter sports and have been held every four years since.
