🇾🇺1945

On November 29, 1945, Josip Broz Tito proclaimed the Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia, a multinational socialist state that brought together Slovenes, Croats, Serbs, Bosnians, Macedonians and Montenegrins under one government. Tito's Yugoslavia was the only European communist country to resist Soviet tutelage during the Cold War. It dissolved violently in 1991.

On November 29, 1947, the UN General Assembly approved the Partition Plan for Palestine, dividing the British Mandate into a Jewish state and an Arab state. The Jews accepted the plan; the Arabs rejected it. On May 14, 1948, Israel declared independence, triggering the first Arab-Israeli war.

🏔️1929

On November 29, 1929, American explorer Richard Byrd became the first person to fly over the South Pole by aeroplane, completing the round trip from the base Little America in Antarctica. The achievement, accomplished with three crew members, made Byrd the national hero of the following two decades in the United States.
