November 11 has no owner yet

On November 11, 1918, at 11 o'clock in the morning, the Armistice of Compiègne between the Allies and Germany came into force, ending World War I after more than four years of conflict. The war had cost the lives of more than 17 million people. November 11 has been commemorated since then as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day in many countries.

On November 11, 1975, Angola formally declared independence from Portugal and the MPLA proclaimed the People's Republic of Angola in Luanda. That same day, the FNLA and UNITA proclaimed a rival government in Huambo. The conflict between the two sides, fuelled by interventions from Cuba, the USSR, South Africa and the US, lasted nearly three decades.

On November 11, 1821, Fyodor Dostoevsky was born in Moscow, one of the most influential novelists in the history of world literature. Author of works such as Crime and Punishment, The Idiot and The Brothers Karamazov, he explored the human psyche, suffering, guilt and redemption as no other. His life included a commuted death sentence and four years of hard labour in Siberia.
