On November 20, 1969, Brazilian footballer Pelé scored his 1,000th career goal, becoming the only player in history to reach that milestone. The goal came from the penalty spot against Vasco da Gama at the Maracanã stadium. Pelé ended his career with 1,281 official goals and is widely considered the greatest footballer of all time.
On November 20, 1989, the UN unanimously adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history. The convention recognises children as subjects of their own rights and has been ratified by 196 countries. November 20 is celebrated as Universal Children's Day worldwide.
On November 20, 1945, the Nuremberg Trials began in Nuremberg — the first international tribunal in history created to judge war crimes and crimes against humanity.
