On November 21, 1783, Frenchmen Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier and the Marquis d'Arlandes completed the first manned flight in history in a hot air balloon by the Montgolfier brothers, flying over Paris for 25 minutes at a height of around 900 metres. The flight was watched by thousands of Parisians, including Benjamin Franklin, witness to the birth of aviation.
On November 21, 2013, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych suspended negotiations to sign the Association Agreement with the European Union, triggering the Euromaidan protests in Kyiv's Independence Square. The demonstrations lasted months, culminated with Yanukovych's flight, and opened the crisis with Russia that would lead to war.
On November 21, 1694, composer Georg Friedrich Handel was born in Halle, Germany, one of the great masters of musical Baroque. Handel spent most of his life in London, where he composed works such as the Messiah — whose Hallelujah chorus is still performed standing worldwide — Water Music and Music for the Royal Fireworks.
