On July 25, 1943, the Grand Fascist Council voted to remove Benito Mussolini after more than twenty years in power. King Victor Emmanuel III had him arrested and replaced him with Marshal Badoglio. It was the beginning of the end of Italian Fascism and hastened Italy's exit from the Second World War.
On July 25, 1947, the United States launched Operation Bootstrap in Puerto Rico, an ambitious industrialisation plan to transform the island's agrarian economy. Within a few decades, Puerto Rico went from subsistence farming to becoming one of the most industrialised territories in the Caribbean.
On July 25, 1976, Concorde made its first scheduled commercial flight between London and Bahrain. The supersonic aircraft, a joint project between France and the United Kingdom, could cross the Atlantic in under four hours and became the defining symbol of luxury air travel in the twentieth century.
