July 29 has no owner yet

On July 29, 1958, President Eisenhower signed the act creating NASA, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, in direct response to the Soviet launch of Sputnik. Just eleven years later, the agency would land humans on the Moon, establishing the United States as the dominant power in space exploration.

On July 29, 1565, Spanish forces under the Duke of Alba defeated the French army at the Battle of Saint-Quentin in northern France. The victory consolidated Spanish Crown hegemony in Europe and was considered so decisive that Philip II ordered the construction of El Escorial monastery in its honour.

On July 29, 1793, the revolutionary journalist Jean-Paul Marat was assassinated in his bathtub by Charlotte Corday, a young Girondist who believed his death would stop the Terror. The act had the opposite effect: Marat was turned into a martyr of the Revolution, and his death intensified the Jacobin repression.
