On June 29, 2007, Apple put the first iPhone on sale in its stores, revolutionising the mobile phone industry. The device, presented by Steve Jobs on January 9 at MacWorld in San Francisco — "today Apple reinvents the phone" — combined an iPod, a phone and an internet communicator. The iPhone transformed human communication and created the app economy. Queues outside Apple stores lasted days.
On June 29, 1958, in the World Cup final in Stockholm, Brazil defeated Sweden 5-2. The young Pelé, just 17, scored two goals in the final and became the youngest player to score in a World Cup final. It was Brazil's first World title — they would go on to win five in total. Pelé was named the tournament's best player. The world discovered that day the greatest footballer of all time.
On June 29, 1613, the famous Globe Theatre in London, built in 1599 for William Shakespeare's plays, burned down and was destroyed during a performance of "Henry VIII", when a stage cannon set fire to the thatched roof. The fire, which lasted two hours, caused no deaths. The theatre was rebuilt the following year and permanently closed in 1642 by the Puritans.
